Abstract
The clip for a ball point pen is shaped with its attachment arm fitting flush inside a recess down the side of the top of the pen in the writing position, and the clip is connected with a push button mechanism so that pressure on the clip retracts the writing point. This brings the lower tip of the arm to a higher position, where due to the sloping shape of the recess a gap is formed between the tip and the bottom of the recess, enabling it to be dipped into a pocket. In this position, the writing point remains retracted.
