Abstract

Mattress support or bed substructure of moulded synthetic plastic, and produced by e.g. a vacuum process, comprises a top horizontal rectangular panel with transverse strengthening ribs projecting beneath and within a flat border. This panel returns vertically downwards as four walls gently inclined outwards to form a grooved external rim at the foot. This groove houses a peripheral steel stiffening rod. Castors in turn locate on the steel rod. The support is pref. moulded as an integral unit and upholstered on its sides and top before finally receiving the mattress.
