Abstract

The Parent Patent describes a filter candle with inward flow and consisting of a perforated tube closed at one end and carrying an external fine-mesh sleeve. A helical binding wire holds the sleeve in place and an external filtering layer, esp. of kieselguhr, rests on the sleeve. The binding wire is of triangular section to facilitate complete removal of the kieselguhr. The improvement comprises using a binding wire of rectangular, esp. square, cross-section, with one face flat against the sleeve. This avoids the tapering effect which tends to lock the kieselguhr in place when the filter is back-flushed.
