Abstract

The mild steel backing plate has a line of small arches formed along its centre line by making two short parallel slits, the metal between the slits then being bent upwards. The plastic or elastomer is then moulded to the required shape directly on to the steel strip and flows under the arches to make a secure bond when the material has hardened. The arches are formed by a large diameter roller with a series of small rollers around its periphery, the plate being passed over between roller and a second roller with cooperating recesses.
