Abstract

Application of a gel to the surface of a substrate, by simultaneously applying first and second liq. streams supplied from separate chambers of a gellable liq. and a complementary gelling agent respectively, the two streams passing along a common flow path to this surface to mix and form a gel. Pref the two streams are aq. or the gellable liq. is an aq. hydrophobic sol and the second liq is an aq. electrolyte soln. The gels may be used as thixotropic paints, cleaning agents, medical prepns, e.g. for treating burns, veterinary prods, shaving creams, cosmetics etc.
