Abstract

Method of making a water tight seal for building elements of mineral matter, based on alkali silicates, comprises controlling the proportions of the alkali silicate mixt. to a ratio Me2O:SiO2 of 1:2.3-2.8 by addn. to the impregnating soln. of MeOH/Me2CO3 (where Me is alkali metal), controlling the SiO2 at 15-25% and the CO2 at 0.5-2% of the weight of the mixt. The mixt. is then diluted with 0.5-10 vols. water per vol. of silicate before impregnating the material.
