Abstract
The membrane filters have smooth, unindented, substantially circular pore openings on both surfaces, the area of the openings being >=3 times as great on one side as the other. Porosity of the membranes is >40% and thickness 50-500 mu. The are made by dissolving cellulose acetate of 20-62.5% acetylation degree in organic solvent, adding a diluent eg. methanol and a salt with metal ion radius 1.33 Angstroms gps I - III, in amt of 20-200 wt.% based on the cellulose acetate and casting on a polished level surface. After evapn of solvent the metal salt is dissolved out. Filters are esp suitable for artificial kidney machines.
