Abstract

A well drill string speed control system has a transducer receiving an electrical signal proportional to drill table speed and providing a pneumatic signal to the speed control mechanism of an engine driving the table. The pneumatic signal may be disconnected from the speed control mechanism if a torque signal exceeds a given value, the control mechanism then being fed with a signal from a throttle control valve on the rig.
