Abstract

Tubular structures made by coaxial extrusions of >=2 annular arrays of parallel strips where the progression of >=1 layer of strips is inclined w.r.t. the tube axis. Prodn of the arrays being via an extrusion die with two coaxial plates where one or both can rotate. Pref. one array is defined by the interfaces of the two die plates, and the interface is conical so that the inner array diverges into contact with the under-side of the outer array shortly after both emerge from the dies. Esp. for mfr. of porous cylinders of polyprolylene for supporting filter element involving radial flow. The (non-circular) strip profiles and their contact areas are readily made sufficiently great to produce stiff, crush resistant structures.
