Abstract

Support for nuclear reactors, resistant to earthquake shocks, in which the support points of the reactor vessel are on a spherical or conical surface, which is convex with its centre of curvature on or slightly above the centre of gravity of the reactor vessel and its contents. The support permits movement radially w.r.t. the vertical centre line of the reactor vessel. Thus seismic shocks are transformed to minor and constrained rotations about the centre of curvature of the supports.
