Abstract

The pile fabric is advanced over a peak of a support and the pile is clipped by a shearing roller and cooperating fixed horizontal blade. Beneath the fixed blade are several parallel L-shaped spring arms having one end fixed and the other free end resting under the fixed blade. Pref. pneumatic rams are selectively actuated to press on the associated arm so that the angle of its elbow is increased and the free end is moved forward to flatten the pile so that it passes under the stationary blade and is not clipped and the arms return to their starting position under spring action. Pref. the arms are guided between pins and are of spring steel.
