Abstract

Calcium silicate based products are made using a green moulded product made from a porous material based on hydrated calcium silicate mainly of xonotlite structure, of density 0.3-0.7 g./cc., enamelled with an enamel which may react with the substrate, and fired in one operation at 500-1100 degrees C. Fired body may be made impermeable to water by spraying with a silicone resin or a 3% soln. of potassium siliconate. Bodies may be used as kitchen sinks, plates, panels and street direction indicators, etc. Surfaces may be made smooth and without discontinuities in sizes up to 3 sq.m.
