Abstract

Method of plating titanium comprises treating the surface to remove the oxide and then depositing on it, a first layer of nicke, then a layer of iron, the nickel being deposited electrolytically, the iron chemically. Pref. an electrical conductor piece made from a titanium casing is internally plated with nickel and iron as above and then fused with a glass disc with metal pins through it by fusing the glass to form a sheathed, insulated, hermetically sealed electrical connection. The iron forms a bond with glass more readily than Ni or Ti, while Ti being used because it has good corrosion resistance to fluids. The connections are used in situations requiring them to withstand high fluid pressures.
