Abstract

A knitted gauze for bandages is entirely of fibranne yarns and is produced by forming rows of chain stitches on guide bars and connecting the rows of stitches with weft yarns. Each weft yarn floats between adjacent rows and is knitted into to several stitches of each row so that the gauze has a large mesh size. Pref. the gauze is formed as a tape and then edges are formed by a row of chain stitches. The gauze is absorbent; has good porosity, is extensible in the transverse direction; and can be cut between adjacent rows of stitches without fraying.
