Abstract

Title agents are made by reacting a mixt. of melamine and urea or their methylol- or alkoxymethylated prods. in a wt. ratio of 1:9-9:1 (on non-methylolated base material), 80-300% of the formaldehyde necessary to completely methylolate the amide gps. present in the mixt. and 2-20 mol of an org. aminocarboxylic- or aminosulphonic acid or sodium- or ammonium sulphite or -bisulphite per 100 mol amide gp. present in the mixt., in aq soln. at pH 8-12 and a temp. of 40-100 degrees C for 1-2 - 5 hrs., distilling off most of the water and heating the residue with 1-20 mol of a monohydric alcohol with 103 C per mol amide gp. in the mixt. and 0-150 wt.% on urea-melamine mixt. of a (cyclo)aliphatic cpd. with 2-24C and 2-16 OH gps. (e.g. glcyerine, sugars, etc.) at pH 1-6.5 and temps. of 40-100 degrees C until the desired viscosity (100-4000 cP) is attained, opt. distilling off excess alcohol and adjusting and give good chlorine-resistant, wash fast finishes to textiles.
