Abstract

The chimney extends upwards from the centre of the recipient and is closed by a cap having a shirt which slides easily over the external surface of the chimney. The top of the cap is pierced by a central hole and the base of the cap holds a number of thicknesses of filter paper; the periphery of this paper is compressed between the upper edge of the chimney and the upper face of the cap. The filter allows the gasses produced during the growth of the mycelium to escape but prevents the passage of micro-organisms which might pollute the culture. The cap also prevents such organisms on the outside of the chimney from coming into contact with the culture. The recipient chan be made from a translucent or transparent thermoplastic or thermo-hardening material. The cap can be moulded in one piece with the recipient and then cut off.
