Abstract

The title cpd., which is active against Herpes simplex types 1 and 2, Vaccinia, myxomatosis virus and pseudorabies virus, is prepd. by substituting an 8-halo-adenosine 3',5'-cyclomonophosphate in the 2-position with a leaving gp., treating this cpd. with CH3OOH and CH3CONa to give 2'-O-(leaving gp.)-8-hydroxy-adenosine 3',5'-cyclomonophosphate, treating this cpd. (e.g. with methanolic NH4PH to give 8-2'-anhydro-8-oxy-9 beta-D-arabinofuranosyl-adenine 3',5'-cyclomonophosphate, treating this cpd. with liquid H2S to give 8-mercapto-9 beta-D-arabinofuranosyl-adenine 3',5'-cyclomonophosphate, and converting this to the title cpd., e.g. by redn. with Raney Ni.
