Abstract

Alkali-resistant terpolymer, esp. for use as paint binder, consists of 3-8 wt.% vinyl-substd. acid, 20-30 wt.% hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate, and 77-62 wt.% vinyl comonomer. Prod. is sol. in water, gives films with a good resistance to water and alkalis. Pref. acid is acrylic acid, the (meth) acrylate is hydroxyethyl (meth)acrylate, and the comonomer is styrene, butyl acrylate, or a halogen-substd. olefin cpd.
