Abstract
Fibres (pref. cellulosic produced from shredded waste fabric) are mixed uniformly with a powdered polymeric adhesive (e.g. PVC) and foamed, pref. by a pneumatic device, into a lap which is compressed by passage through the nip (pref. 2.40 cm long) pref. between two needled rolls, whereby the lap is also subjected to a light needling. Excess adhesive (e.g. polyester glycidylic resin) is applied (pref. by spraying) to one surface of the lap and the excess adhesive may be cured (e.g. by IR heating) before the lap is fed to a conveyor which feeds it to a heater to fuse the adhesive and consolidate the lap into a wadding. Prod. is used as filling or packaging wadding, which may be hot moulded to a desired shape.
