Abstract

Organopolysiloxane compsn curing to a fire resistant elastomer with good mechanical props consists of (pts. wt) (I) 100 diorganopolysiloxane resin which has a viscosity of 2-80 million cP at 25 degrees C, consists mainly of diorganopolysiloxyl units, is blocked at the chain ends by triorganosiloxyl, hydroxyl or lower alkoxy gps, and contains alkyl, haloalkyl vinyl, aryl or haloaryl gps. bonded to the Si atoms >=50% of these gps being methyl gps, (II) 5-100 fillers opt. treated with organosilicon cpds (III) 0-20 organosilicon plasticisers, (IV) 0-20 pigments and/or stabilisers, (V) 0.2-5 org. peroxides (VI) 0.001-0.01 Pt and (VII) either 3-35 oxides of rare earth metals or 1-8 hydroxides of rare earth metals combined with 0-5 MgO. The rare earth in VII is pref. Ce, La, Nd, Pr or Sm. The compsn. is cured by heating.
