Abstract

Tank is either round or parallelepipedal and the internal walls are fitted with slopes which converge to a central sump; this acts as a housing for the introduction of a movable extraction device with two endless screws. The sump is covered with a convex lid which slides on the upper edges of the sump and can be removed through an inspection door. The extraction device comprises a frame on runner wheels; it supports the parallel endless endless screws which rotate in opposite directions. When introduced into the sump it evacuates the marc which descends down the slopes. The tank can be rapidly and automatically cleared of the accumulated marc, after the wine has been drawn off, in a regular manner. The extractor is adjustable in height and can be transported from one tank to another; one of its endless screws is driven by a motor at an adjustable speed. The slopes have sealing lips at their lower ends where they rest on the upper face of the sump cover; they are made of bars placed at right-angles to the longitudinal axis of the sump. The cover for the latter may be made from a number of retractable elements.
