Self-extinguishing polyamide (e.g. nylon-12) moulding cpds. contain, as flame-retardants, 0.5-10.0, pref. 2.0-5.0% based on wt. of moulding cpd. of cpds. formula (I) or (II) (where >=3 R are Br and the remainder are H, F, Cl or 1-3C alkyls). Cpds. have m.p. 150-300 degrees C and are toxicologically harmless. Octabromodiphenyllether is suitable.
