Abstract

Mesh filter element from thermoplastic material such as nylon or polypropylene is made around circular former. Two rolls of mesh are joined and tensioned to form taught cover around the former. This then moves forward, taking the mesh with it, into a welding head where a second join is made behind the former, thus forming a circular element from two semicircular portions of sheet. the former then moves forward again into a cutting head where the weld is cut through the centre, leaving the element intact but also leaving the two bands of mesh joined. These then spring back on to the next former, since they are continuously tensioned, and the cycle repeated.
