Abstract

Foam is produced by bringing an anhydrous effervescent mixt. into contact with water or an aq. compsn. contg. surface-active agents. A metallised paper, double compartment sachet contains the effervescent mixt., prepd. and preserved in a correctly dehydrated medium, in one compartment and the aq. compsn. in the other. The two sets of materials can be brought into contact by simply tearing the wall of the liq. compartment by means of a pre-formed tear strip. The sachet (1) is welded or stuck at the edges (2) and has a second compartment in the form of a pocket (3) with a tearing strip (4). A pull on the latter tears the wall of the pocket (3) bringing the two components into contact to form the foam. When the reaction is complete, one corner of the sachet is cut and the foam expelled by exercising a light press. The device is simple and more easily carried than the aerosol type used hitherto. It can form a persistent foam for use in shaving or as a deodorant; it can provide an instantaneous foaming soap for use as a double and as a coloured and perfumed foam for the bath.
