Abstract
The two parts are so butted together as to leaves a crevice between their edges wider at the outside, either by leaving a Vee between the mating edges or by chamfering one of them. The beam esp. from a laser is then directed into that crevice esp. using a focusing lens such that the focal point is either at the base of the crevice so that the energy entering the crevice is in as straight a patt. as possible at the edges.
