Abstract

A prod. with temporary lubricating action for use on screw joints comprises (a) a volatile solvent (esp. 1,1, i-trichloroethane) (b) a solid with a low coefft. of friction e.g. graphite or finely divided MoS2, and (c) an activator of ionic reactions on the surface of passive materials, e.g. a salt of Ag, Cu and/or Mo. Pref. prods. contain =14 vol. % graphite, =2.5 vol.% Cu salt and >=83.5 vol. % solvent. When used in combination with a polymerisable resin, the lubricant initially facilitates screwing, after which the activator ensures that the polymerised resin is anchored securely to the metal surfaces of the joint.
