Abstract
Polyamide fibres are formed by extruding a fibre forming polyamide contg. 1-12% of antistatic compd. (I) of MW >1500 and, as an improvement >=0.1%, based on (I) of a phenol compd. of formula (II) or (III): where x is 1-6 and in II y is 6-30 and in (III) 1-6. The molten material is extruded into a cold zone and then drawn. (I) is of formula A, B, C and D. where R is 3-15C alkylene. -(CnH2nO)s-(CuH2nO)t-CwH2W-; where R'-R"" are -(CH2CHO)a(CH2CH2O)bH; R1-R4 are indep. as R' or 1-20C monovalent hydrocargons; R5 is ethylene, R is -CH2CH2 -CH2CH2-, CH2CH2- -CH2-CH2- -CH2-CH2- etc. where R6, R7 etc. are indep. as R1-R4 or 1-20C hydrocarbly; provided that at least one of R1-R7 is as R'. D is the reactn. prod. of A, B, C and/or D with (1) diepoxides or (2) prods. contg. divalent radicals. -CO-R10-CO- and -CO.N.R10-N-CO- where R10 is 1-20C hydrocarbon. The presence of the phenolic compd. prevents the formation of enlarged zones in the extruded filaments by reducing gel formation.
