Abstract

The reactor has an outer casing and a double-walled spiral partition made of material which is selectively permeable to a reactant common to conjugate reactions taking place in each of the two compartments is formed in the reactor by the incorporation of the partition; the material of the partition also exhibiting catalytic activity w.r.t. both reactions. The reactions may be dehydrogenation and hydrodealkylation, in which case the partition is of Pd alloy. Sealing is only required at the ends of the partition, and the ratio of the surface area of structural material to catalytic material is minimised.
