Abstract

Parent patent described a mould design for mfr. of blocks of expanded synthetic material with pockets for packaging bottles etc., where the male half of the mould featured solid cylindrical bodies for the pocket cavity cores. This addition claims use of cores which are assemblies of prefabricated components machined from laminated light metal alloy, each fitted with an end plate and bolted to a common cover plate which can be fitted on top of a female mould with removable side walls. Pref. the prefabricated cores are fitted with smooth covers. The hollow structure has less thermal inertia than the former solid cores, offers greater control and uniformity of moulding, cooling rates shortening cycle times, e.g. from >=4 to ca 21/2 minutes and avoiding inherent internal stress and warpage. Alloy surface releases mouldings readily.
