Catalyst for steam reforming a wide range of hydrocarbons to produce ethylene comprise a thermally conductive skeleton or core (esp. spherical SiC pellets, dia. 2-20 mm) coated with a catalytically active material, pref. contg. (a) MgO, SiO2, Al2O3 and or ZrO2, (b) 6a, Nd and or Ce, (c) Fe, Co and/or Ni, and opt. (d) alkali(ne earth) metal oxides.
