Abstract

The naturally occurring heteroside of formula (I): name peltatoside has antihaemorrhagie activity superior to that of rutin. Useful in treatment of haemorrhage, oedema, eczema, erythrodermia. Prepd. by aqs. extraction of dried, powdered defatted tissue of water lilies, e.g. Nymphoides peltata, followed by solvent extraction and chromatography. The cpd. is non-toxic at 100 times the therapeutic dose. Suitable dosage forms contain 10-20 mg in 2 or 5 ml (ampoules), 5-20 mg in suppositories or 2-10 mg in oral compsns.
