Abstract

Prosthetic device comprises an artificial socket to be cemented onto the iliac bone and a separate component comprises a spike for anchorage in the femur and connected via an offset neck to a ball and sized to suit the socket component, where one or both the mating ball and socket surfaces are treated with a layer or coating of antifriction material, pref. PTFE reinforced with metal mesh or glass fibres. Present joint offers easier movement.
