Abstract

An astable multivibrator pulsed oscillator fed via a flexible cable from an external d.c. supply is encased firstly in a corrosion resistant material with an outer layer of material which is non-toxic and inert relative to body tissue. Two elongated electrodes from the output terminals of the oscillator pass through the casing via rigid insulating tubes extending over most of their length the bare ends being applied directly to the boned to be healed or the deformed bone to be corrected. This gives very significant increase in rate of bone growth compared to pure d.c. stimulation methods and is free from undesirable side effects.
