Abstract

Dirty or encrushed surfaces of cooking utensils contg. fissures or cracks are cleaned by (1) thorough impregnation with a soln (I). (2) impregnation with a soln (II) which reacts with (I) to produce violent release of gas bubbles which break up the crust allowing it to be removed with cleaning soln or by abrasion. (I) and (II) are acid or basic. The basic soln is weakly carbonated e.g. Na2CO3 and the acid is also weak e.g citric acetic. Gas released is CO2.
