Abstract

The filling capacity of tobacco is increased by impregnating tobacco with the vapour of an org. cpd. (I) in the absence of the liquid or solid phase of (I), (I) being chemically inert w.r.t. tobacco and having a b. pt. of -50 to +80 degrees C, and the impregnation being effected at a temp. > that b. pt., following which the tobacco is subjected to such conditions, still ate temp. > b. pt. of (I), that the vapour is released from and/or expands in the tobacco, resulting in expansion of the latter. The process is applicable to any kind of tobacco used in cigarettes, cigars or pipe, and is particularly for Burley, flue-cured and oriental (e.g. Turkish) tobacco.
