Abstract

Parent patent describes applying to a cigarette paper, flame proofing material along a first series of parallel lines pref. inclined to the longitudinal axis of the paper and along a second series of parallel lines which cross the first series of lines and are pref. inclined in an opposite direction to the axis of the paper whereby to form a diagonal net work. The first and second series of lines of flameproofing material are applied by two rollers in series and in the improvement the spacing between the lines of the second series is greater than (pref. more than twice than) the spacing between the lines of the first series. Pref. a line joining two intersecting point is not perpendicular to the edge of the paper and pref. the number of intersections lying in a plane transverse to the axis of the paper is always less than half the number of lines intersecting the plane. The quantity of flameproofing material is reduced whilst still maintaining uniform burning.
