Abstract

Box annealed coils of grain oriented silicon steel sheet are stress relieved by annealing at 704-1093 (704-982) degrees C in a non-oxidising and non-carburising atmosphere, after being stretched to 1% extension, and then cooled to 538 degrees C before exposure to air. Pref. the process is continuous and comprises heating to 816-982 degrees C and stretching, annealing at 704-816 degrees C, and then cooling. The process removes edge damage, produced by box annealing, to give a flat sheet without loss of magnetic properties.
