Abstract

Sealing the ends of pipe work lined and clad with PTFE by plugging the lining, fitting a sleeve of PTFE of the same wall thickness as the pipe between the original lining and sheath, applying a pressure collar around the zone enclosing the sleeve, sintering and cooling the layers of PTFE to form an integral annular cap on the end of the pipe, and machining off surplus PTFE. Pref. the cap sleeve is sintered at 370 degrees C under a pressure of 100-120 bars. For mfr. of tubing fully protected against corrosion or metal contamination of materials, passing through pipe joints. Integral sintered seal may be prefd. to mechanical folding or clamping of the inner or outer lining to cover the end of the pipe section.
