Abstract

Mandrels for hollow filament wound structure where the body and the end caps of the mandrels are assembled from interlocking segments which can be dismantled and removed from the finished structure. The end caps may comprise several polygonal segments pivotted from a small focal plate, pref. have hinged flaps for securing the stepped ends of the body panels. Pref. >=1 of the assembly catches can be operated from the outside. Several mandrels may be assembled in series to produce a compartmented container. The mandrel may be mounted on an axle providing a means for rotation or a support for radial stiffening struts. The wound structure produced can have integral end caps instead of involving structural joints between cap and body.
