Abstract

Two component synergistic stabiliser for materials (esp. thermoplastics and resins) flame-retarded with chlorine-contg. materials; one component being one or more phosphites (I): (where R1-3 are is not >20C alkyl, aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl; R1-3 cannot all be alkyl or aralkyl) the other opt. being >=1 phenol (II): (where R4 and R5 are is not >12C hydrocarbyl, with tert. benzylic carbons), ratio (I):(II) being 1:3-3:1. Used in amt. 1% of protected thermoplastic. Compsn. prevents discolouration during high temp. moulding or extrusion. Used in e.g., polyolefins, acrylics and condensn. polymers, flame-retarded with e.g., halophosphites, halophthalic anhydrides.
