Abstract

Use of scrap serpentine from extraction of asbestos for refractories before or after extraction of Fe, or after addition of brucite or magnesite. The refractoriness after ignition is 1670 degrees C, after removing Fe, 1710 degrees C and after addition of MgO, may be 1880-1890 degrees C. Ceramic materials may also be made by addition of a flux, e.g. NaOH, Na2CO3, CaO, CaF2 etc.
