Abstract
The mixture of ethylbenzene, a gas contg. mol. O2, steam and opt. H2S or SO2 is passed over an active C catalyst contg. iron oxide, at 299-677 degrees C, at pressures below or slightly above atmos. for a contact time of 0.1-50 secs. The mol. ratio of steam/ethylbenzene is at least 1.5/1 and that of air/ethylbenzene is at least 0.05/1.
