Abstract

In welding large diameter pipes or pressure vessels internally, the leads to the torch are the same length and cross sectional area and are arranged parallel to each other in the area of the weld pool so that magnetic effects cancel each other out and do not affect the weld arc. The positive lead is fed in along the weld boom to the torch, and the negative lead from the other end of the pipe to terminate in a spider in sliding contact with the inside of the pipe, as near as possible to the weld area.
