Abstract

Antibiotics of formula (I): (where R is H (duborimycin) or OH (antibiotic 27706 RP) are prepd. by reducing an antibiotic of formula (II) or a salt thereof: ((II; R = H) is daunorubicin and (II; R=OH) is adriamycin), suitably with an alkali metal borohydride. Duborimycin is a known antibiotic with antitumour activity. 27706 RP is a new antibiotic with the same antitumour activity as duborimycin and is partic. active in transplantable tumours in mice, e.g. sarcoma 180, and in leukaemia L 1210.
