Abstract

In a growth-medium esp. for young forest plantations the filling material for surrounding the root-system consists of dry, freely mobile pellets, capable of swelling and prepd. from organic matter esp. bark contg. balanced quantities of nutrients. On absorbing moisture the pellets swell and shift, closely contacting the individual roots to avoid formation of air-pockets and to ensure firm positioning. Prepd. from freshly dried and compressed bark (water-content ca 10%). The original vol. increases 2-3 fold during absorption of water. Nutrient and chemicals are added after drying.
