Abstract

Cpd. of formula (I): (where R and R1 are H, alkyl, aryl, haloaryl or alkoxyaryl; R2 is H or OCH2CHOHCH2R4; R3 is H, an electron-withdrawing gp. (e.g. halogen) or an electron-donating gp. (e.g. alkyl or alkoxy); R4 is NHCH(Me)2, NHC(Me)3, NHCHMeCH2Me, NHCH(Ar)2 or piperidino; Ar is aryl) have beta-adrenergic blocking activity. They may be prepd., e.g. by reacting a 2-, 3- or 4-hydroxy-5-R3-benzamide with an epihalohydrin and reacting the product with R4H.
