Abstract

The machine for both longitudinal and spiral welded tube making comprises >=1 loop H.F. induction coil disposed in front of the point at which the V-shaped edges of the blank make contact with each other. It also has in front of this coil in the gap between the edges, the front end of a medium frequency longitudinal inductor. To the two sides of the front end are fitted conductor strips running in the weld gap. Their outer width is less than the tube wall thickness. Additionally magnetic back connections are fitted below and above the conductor strips. The system ensures adequate and uniform heating of the edges to be joined permitting the welding of thick walled tubing.
