Abstract

An aq. soln. for removing scale, gypsum or anhydrite contains a partially neutralised aminopolyacetic acid which can form chelates with Ca or Mg ions, and ammonium or an alkali metal (bi)carbonate; the pH of the compsn. is 6.5-9.5. Teh compsn. is used to remove deposits contg. varying amts. of Ca, Mg or Ba sulphates and/or carbonates, from oil boreholes, the porous and permable parts of the stonework of reservoirs, heat exchangers, pipelines, cooling towers and internal combustion engines. The initial liquid permeability of rock formation is restored, or may be increased. Reaction is more rapid than with chelating agents or (NH4)HCO3 alone, Lower temps. are used and soluble conversion prods. are formed.
