Abstract

Metallic V or V ore are continuously reacted with Cl2 in a reactor from which the heat is continuously removed by means of water. The VCl4 thus produced is purified by passing through a column packed with NaCl at 250-300 degrees C, and is then condensed. The NaCl is continuously replenished and the NaCl-impurities complex continuously removed. VCl4 of >=99% purity is obtd. and may be stored without decompsn.
