Abstract

Roasting material containing iron sulphide. Used to obtain a roasted product containing magnetite with a low sulphur content. A turbulent bed reactor is used for roasting coarse granular pyrites to have about 15% residual sulphur at a temp. >900 degrees C. The material is transferred to a second stage, while hot. Here it is roasted to magnetite at a lower temp. than the first stage, from 700-850 degrees C. After this, the material is enriched magnetically.
